Fast Day 21

For Joseph it all started with a dream. His dream – his vision – took him from a pit in the desert to Potiphar’s house, to prison, and eventually to the palace. It was there in the palace that Joseph fulfilled his God-given dream and saved Israel. Today we challenge you to dream big.

Today’s scripture confirms how we can impact the Mountain of Business: Our wealth helps establish God’s covenant – His Kingdom on Earth. In this case, King Nebuchadnezzar’s wealth could have shown mercy and loving-kindness to the poor and oppressed.

In the beginning, Elohim – the Creator of the Universe – made everything we need for life. He placed everything in its proper place and order, like a healthy economy that sustains life. Once creation’s “economy” was set, He created us in His image and in His likeness. He even numbered the hairs on our head (except for Pastors Jonas and Shawn) and then told us to steward His creation. His plans for our lives are for our good. They are for our welfare and peace. He wants us to prosper and be in health, even as our soul prospers.

God does impossible math. Who would have imagined a 25-minute short film on a friend’s farm in Illinois for a church Christmas production would become the #1 Crowdfunded Media Entertainment Project in history, initially raising $10 million from over 19,000 people globally? This unprecedented revenue made the way for an independent, faith-based film director to create The Chosen, the first-ever multi-season show about Jesus. Distributed by VidAngel, to date, over 50 million people have watched The Chosen in more than 180 countries across free streaming services, and this is just the first eight episodes of season one.

Since Dallas Jenkins was in high school he wanted to direct movies. As an adult, he got his big break directing the Christian-drama, The Resurrection of Gavin Stone (2017). God loves a celebration. The very first miracle of Jesus the Messiah, the coming King, wasn’t to exorcise a demon, control the weather, or raise the dead. His first miracle: Turn water into wine and save a celebration. And it was good wine. In fact, the master said it was the best. When Jesus creates, He creates the best. John 2:11 says when Jesus did this, He revealed His glory and His disciples believed.

Think about this: in biblical times, whenever a prophet or messenger needed to deliver a message to the masses, they had to get everyone in one location to do so. Today, media outlets with great power and influence are able to communicate instantly to people all around the world.

An excerpt from The New York Times in 2012 captured where Hall chose to place his focus and worship: Underpinning his running is his faith. The marathon is so isolating in its training...that many athletes seek a purpose larger than themselves...For some, it is their families or an escape from poverty. For others, it is their religion.

Did you know that God is so mindful of scales and weights? He abhors dishonest metrics, calls them an abomination and whoever deals in them as impure. What does this mean for us? Weights and scales are the means we use to make judgements in our lives. If our scales and weights are corrupt and dishonest, so are our judgements. In 2 Chronicles 19, King Jehoshaphat installs judges in every city in Judea and instructs them to judge on God’s behalf with the fear of the LORD, showing no partiality nor taking bribes.

A true education from the Lord teaches us how to love our friends, family and coworkers before it teaches us about the mysteries of our cosmos. Jesus said it best: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” Think of it this way, what good is it for mankind to travel to the moon if we still hate each other and continue to rebel against God?

Throughout the Bible we can see God revealing his heart through His utmost desire to bless us as his children, and the generations that come after us. In Numbers 6 we find God sharing His blessing with Moses, commanding him to teach it to Aaron so that he can in turn speak it over God’s people, the Israelites. The blessing was not meant to stay with Moses or even Aaron — but to be shared with God’s people and transcend generations.

Have you ever been surprised to hear your child repeat something that you said? I didn’t realize I have a particular catch phrase, or even that my child was listening to it, until I heard my preschooler say it. There’s one thing I know for certain: becoming a parent has become the biggest “mirror” of my life.

Do you remember your childhood days when you would go and play at a friend’s house? For me, my friends’ parents always embraced me as their own. I was welcomed to stay and play, partake in family activities, and was even fed (very well). Yet at some point, our time together came to an end and I had to leave.

I remember climbing the Manitou Incline on the eastern flanks of Pikes Peak, Colorado. Starting at 6,530 feet it’s a tricky, daunting ascent. 2,744 steps rise 2,020 feet in just under one mile. That’s steep. In fact, the average grade is 41 percent, but in some places its 68 percent requiring hikers to toil upwards on all four limbs while summit is hidden from view. The worst part isn’t physical, it’s psychological.
