Fast Day 16

Mountain of Influence: Arts and Entertainment

Day 1 – Worship

John 2:7-9

'Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine... '

God loves a celebration. The very first miracle of Jesus the Messiah, the coming King, wasn’t to exorcise a demon, control the weather, or raise the dead. His first miracle: Turn water into wine and save a celebration. And it was good wine. In fact, the master said it was the best. When Jesus creates, He creates the best. John 2:11 says when Jesus did this, He revealed His glory and His disciples believed.

Isn’t that what creation does? Reveal God’s glory so we might believe? Psalms says the heavens declare the glory of God, and Paul says creation reveals the hidden attributes of God, so that men are without excuse.

When we’re creating, celebrating, or performing, we’re reflecting the glory of God, because He created us in His image. We create because God creates. Our arts, our entertainment, our sports, our fashion, and our culture are reflections of Him who gives us life—and all good things to enjoy.

Put another way, when you see a rainbow, did you realize you are beholding the reflection of light through raindrops at a 45-degree angle? Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet rays all bend in a splendid arc on an invisible watery canvas in front of you. But what’s more amazing, the light source for that rainbow is actually behind you. So that Crayola box of color before you is actually a reflection of the sun behind you.

Similarly, all wholesome creative endeavors before us reflect our God, who is over us. Isn’t God wonderful? Let us worship!

Your Turn

Prayer:

God, you love to celebrate and enjoy life! Thank you for our gifts, talents, abilities, and imagination. Like Jesus, may we always give our best and always give you the glory!

Fast Thoughts:

One day we will attend the wedding supper of Jesus in heaven. How can you use your gifts, talents, creative endeavors now to bring others to that eternal celebration?
