Fast Day 10
Mountain of Influence: Government
Day 1 – Worship
Isaiah 9:6-7 NLT
For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end,
Even as a little child, Jesus had an impact on governmental policy. As an adult, Jesus had such a great effect on government that the Jewish and Roman leaders decided to put Him to death.
In respects to Jesus’ government, Isaiah 9 reveals Jesus will carry the entire government upon His shoulders. As His government increases, so will peace. Though we are not yet at the absolute governance of Jesus seen in Revelation, we can attest that governments with a foundation in God are successful.
Take the United States of America for example. Characteristic of what one looks to in a government are the attributes listed here in Jesus‘ government: wonderful, counsel, mighty, everlasting, peace, judgment and justice. Also, did you know that the three branches of the U.S. government have their own parallels to books in the Bible? Kings for the executive branch, Judges for the judiciary, and Leviticus for legislative branch?
While Isaiah and Revelation reveal aspects of Jesus’ government, even our American government with its Judeo-Christian foundation, shows semblances of God. In acknowledgement of our God and King in whom our government is based, let us worship! Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end!
Your Turn
Prayer:
Father, you sit on Your throne forever and ever, there is no one like You God. Thank You for Your government which You have installed in all the Earth and in America. Thank You that I get to experience this wonderful nation that is based on Your principles. Open my eyes to see You more in our government. Let Your kingdom come and Your will be done in America and in our government.
Fast Thoughts:
Imagine a world where Luke 10:27 is closely followed and lived. To love the Lord with all your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. That world is governed with the righteousness of God.
