Fast Day 14
Mountain of Influence: Media
Day 2 – Repentance
Nehemiah 8:1
And all the people gathered as one man into the square before the Water Gate. And they told Ezra the scribe to bring the Book of the Law of Moses that the LORD had commanded Israel.
Think about this: in biblical times, whenever a prophet or messenger needed to deliver a message to the masses, they had to get everyone in one location to do so. Today, media outlets with great power and influence are able to communicate instantly to people all around the world.
The impact of media is everywhere. Although television consumption within the home may be dropping, mobile technology has enabled us to interact with media anywhere. For many, it has become hard to separate from and in some cases, has become an addiction. Regardless of the form of media we use, it has the power to shape our thoughts, and control our lives.
Don’t get me wrong, not all messages from the media are bad. In fact, many messages seek to edify and build up, but there are others that seek to tear down and destroy. Is it time to change the messages you are receiving? To repent simply means to turn away from, or make a complete change of direction, away from media and other sources that would seek to tear down and destroy. Media is seemingly everywhere and may seem hard to escape, but remember, we serve a God who actually IS everywhere. He is omnipresent, and He wants to help turn your focus to seek messages that build up and edify.
Your Turn
Prayer:
Father help me to see where I have allowed messages in that would seek to destroy and tear down. I repent now, I change my direction in these areas, and I place my focus on You and Your word because in it I am built up and edified. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
Fast Thoughts:
Submit yourself to the Holy Spirit’s promptings and convictions to help rid your life of negative messaging. Commit to fasting some aspect of media and replace that time with time in His presence.
