Fast Day 12
Mountain of Influence: Government
Day 3 – Proclaim
Matthew 6:9-10
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
John F. Kennedy once said, “Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.” The 35th President understood citizenship implied civic duty.
Jesus understood this also. In fact, in Matthew 6 Jesus taught us it’s our duty to pray God’s government in heaven to come on Earth and to delight in His law being done. When we delight in the Lord, praying, singing and proclaiming His word, He promises to give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4). How much more so when we desire His government come and be established in us, our heart, our homes, our industries and our communities?
Understanding God’s kingdom and our civic responsibility changes everything. God has made us kings and priests (Revelation 1:6) and has appointed us as his ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20). As such, we can shoulder the mantle of God’s governmental responsibility with confidence. We can no longer shy back from engaging with the world of politics and our civic duty. In fact, we must take up our assignment of kingdom duty on earth now—not just when Christ comes back to rule with us. So, what kingdom assignment has God laid up in your heart? What civic duty are you God’s ambassador for? What governmental policy or office can you mediate on behalf of? How will you increase Jesus’ government and His peace in our world today? And if you do not know, then ask what can you do for Him.
Your Turn
Prayer:
Father, there is none like You! I worship and proclaim that Your Kingdom is here and that Your will is be done in my life, home and country. Help me to walk as an ambassador for You Lord in all I do, in Jesus name, amen.
Fast Thoughts:
As you go about today, think about God as the supreme ruler of everything and about your civic duty in His government. Pray that you are a gracious and exemplary civil servant for His kingdom.
