Connecting to God through His Word | Week 3 | Connect Me To...
We should have a relationship with the Word of God
Jesus is the Word of God
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. 5 The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1;1-5; 14 NASB 1995
In a relationship
We listen to each other
Seek to understand each other
We spend time with each other
We live life together
One problem is: we see the Bible as a book to learn from and not someone to be in relationship with. The problem lies in the lens we have seen the word of God through:
Instruction book
History book
Book of formulas (almost like a book of spells)
Necessary to be successful
Seen it as part of our Christian duty in order to be spiritual
Another problem is: We’ve seen it through the lens of the law (Old covenant) and not through the lens of the Spirit (New Covenant)
5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
2 Corinthians 3:5-6 NKJ
What’s the difference in the law and the Spirit?
Law of the word
Condemnation
Shame
Judgement
Not good enough
Rejection
Self-reliance
Strife
Pride
Stubbornness
Selfish ambition
Status
Performance based acceptance
Death – drudgery (the grind)
Spirit word
Acceptance
Love
Peace
Joy
Hope
Friendship
Rest
Provision
Healing
Deliverance
Provision
Humility
Life – where every day is seen through the lens of blessing and excitement
TRUTH: Matthew 12:34; Proverbs 18:21
1. The way we see something determines our belief.
2. Our belief determines our speech.
3. Our speech determines our reality.
Why did God give us the Bible? -
To renew our minds to be in relationship with him. (Romans 12:1-2 NKJV)
To live a Jesus did in the earth. (2 Peter 1:3-4 NKJV) (Matthew 10:7-8 NASB1995)
To be his ambassadors in the earth. (2 Corinthians 5:18-20 NASB1995)
Bring Jesus into our situations (Hebrews 10:23 HCSB)
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Romans 12:1-2 NKJV
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
2 Peter 1:3-4 NKJV
7 And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
Matthew 10:7-8 (NASB1995)
18 Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.
2 Corinthians 5:18-20 (NASB1995)
23 Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23 (HCSB)
We need Holy Spirit to renew us in the spirit of our mind.
22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, 23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Ephesians 4:22-24 NKJV
Words of Knowledge
We believe the Lord wants to heal scar tissue from a really bad burn.
We believe the Lord wants to heal all pain on the left side of the body, but particularly the shoulder, elbow, thigh, and ankle.
We believe the Lord is healing the inside part of a right lower leg, maybe from some sort of nerve damage.
We believe the Lord is healing right ankles.
We believe the Lord is healing right hip pain.
We believe the Lord is healing a sickness that hasn’t been getting better, it has been holding on and the Lord is healing you today.
We believe the Lord is healing a headache that comes and won't go away even with medicine.
We believe there is someone who lost someone and you’re still struggling, the Lord is healing you and bringing you peace today.
We believe the Lord is restoring relationships.
We heard the Lord say, “Eagle” and these two scriptures:
“Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” (James 1:12)
“But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
