Live a Spirit Filled Life | Week 1 | What Makes us Tick?

What does it mean to live a spirit filled life?

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 8:13-15 NKJV

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

John 14:26 NKJV

This Spirit filled life is about walking with the Holy Spirit.

  1. In my worship and prayer life

  2. In the Word

  3. In my daily work

  4. In my family and friends

  5. In my service to His Bride (The Church)

  6. In my service to a lost world

Two prerequisite to live a spirit filled life.

  1. The Holy Spirit needs to be with you (Salvation)

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

Galatians 4:4-7 NKJV

2. You need to be empowered by the Holy Spirit (Baptism in the Holy Spirit)

5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Acts 1:5, 8 NKJV

The first Baptism in the Spirit

2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Acts 2:1-4 NKJV

31 After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Acts 4:31 NIV

7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

2 Corinthians 4:7 NIV

18 And don’t get drunk with wine, which leads to reckless actions, but be filled by the Spirit:

Ephesians 5:18 HCSB

There are four kinds of tongues

  1. Baptism in the Spirit

4 Then they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them ability for speech. Acts 2:4 HCSB

  2. Holy Spirit intercedes through us

26 In the same way the Spirit also joins to help in our weakness, because we do not know what to pray for as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with unspoken groanings. Romans 8:26 HCSB

  3. Our prayer language

2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. 4 He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church. I Corinthians 14:2, 4 NKJV

  4. Message in tounges

10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. I Corinthians 12:10 NKJV

How to receive the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

John 7:37-39 NKJV

Words of Knowledge

  • We believe God is healing an ongoing pain in the right foot due to an injury

  • Envision a wreck dive and the amazing amount of life that is there. This wreck is covered with coral and tons of fish of all sizes, from small to over 4 ½ feet, an abundance of life. God says focus on the wreck – in its prime it would have been a massive boat with a mission to protect. Yet here it sat, broken under the water. Here is what I heard God say – that if that boat was not there, there would be no life, and around the boat was sand and pretty empty. The boat had a new purpose. I feel like He said that sometimes the boats are put on the bottom because they are finished with their original purpose, and this allows new life to grow. But He said, sometimes those boats were in the middle of fulfilling their purpose and something bad happened and they were sunk.  I heard God say, that often we disqualify ourselves because we were broken, and we were broken either before we knew we had a purpose or in the middle of what we thought our purpose was. What we don’t see is the life that comes from that. I heard him say “You are not disqualified; you have a purpose that will bring life!” I hear that all the “holes” and “scars” have a purpose, they allow new life to attach and they offer shelter to tiny growing things. Whatever the thing was that derailed you and made you feel broken, will be used to produce new life – abundant life for many. “

  • We believe God wants to heal paralysis in legs of those who are wheelchair bound.

  • We believe the Lord wants to break off feelings and thoughts of being disheartened, dispirited and also lost determination, confidence or hope.

  • We believe, if you have been feeling overly exhausted lately and can’t figure out why and you get plenty of sleep but wake up tired, that you are carrying too many burdens by yourself. The Lord is waiting on you to freely come to Him and lay your burdens at the cross.  Surrender will bring the relief and rest you truly need.

  • We believe the Lord is saying that your words have power, use them carefully. Life and death are in the power of the tongue.  What words or comments have you released in your anger and distress this week? (Proclaiming inner vows and judgments.) Come up and confess them to the Lord and release them at the altars.

  • We believe the Lord is saying, “Return to and rest in your identity as My child.” We know He will take care of us. When we approach a good Father, we don’t experience lack and we become unwavering in the face of adversity.

  • We believe God wants to heal lungs due to an infection such as: COVID, bronchitis, pneumonia, COPD.

Words Of Encouragement:

  • We believe someone tends to compare yourself to others and feel inadequate, and God is saying He has made you unique and amazing with incredible purpose for you in this life.

  • We believe there are many people who feel uncomfortable. Our initial reaction is to want to pull back. However, God is urging us to press in and go beyond what is comfortable.

  • We believe if you are feeling without purpose or lost (specifically the elderly), God is saying that you are NECESSARY for a legacy of faith in the next generation! As God deals with the orphan spirit in His children, He is calling spiritual mothers and fathers to pour into them! He is NOT finished with you!

  • We believe you can never get too far from Him. A single moment in His Word and His presence can bring immediate transformation. Just turn to Him and be refreshed by Him like the prodigal son.

Words Of Wisdom:

  • We believe for those with Prodigal children, they don’t have to be inside the four walls of the church for Holy Spirit to encounter them. Your child doesn't have to come to church on Sundays to have an undeniable experience with God. He can reach them anywhere.
