Aspects of Freedom

Your battle is not against flesh and blood

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 NKJV

We have full authority over the enemy

17 The seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!” 18 And he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you. 20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Luke 10:17-20 ESV

The enemy of our life has different tactics to defeat us

For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:4 ESV

Strongholds – personal battle to stop you from influencing the world around you for the Kingdom of God.

A strong hold

  • Okh-of-or-mah : fortification

  • A fortification of thinking,  feeling, and behaving

  • The Attack

  • The Agreement (Attachment)

  • The Stronghold

Attributes of freedom

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

2 Corinthians 10:3-6 NKJV

  • Spiritual Freedom (deliverance)

12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Ephesians 6:12 NKJV

  • Mental Freedom (renewing your mind)

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Romans 12:2 NKJV

  • Physical Freedom (behavioral modification)

26 Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. 27 But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.

1 Corinthians 9:26-27 NKJV

Responses that fear causes

  • Fight - you attach whatever is trying to intimidate you

  • Flight - you retreat from where you feel fear

  • Freeze - you freeze up when you feel it’s presence

  • Appease - you seek to pacify the source of the fear

28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29 Or how can someone enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house.

Matthew 12:28-29 ESV
