Victory - Week 1

Biblical Backstory

1 Samuel 17 David Kills Goliath

1 Samuel 27:1-2 (NRSV)
David said in his heart, "I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul; there is nothing better for me than to escape to the land of the Philistines; then Saul will despair of seeking me any longer within the borders of Israel, and I shall escape out of his hand." So David set out and went over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to King Achish son of Maoch of Gath.

Reflection

1. How did I get here?

We sincerely doubt the only one who can truly deliver us!

2 Corinthians 1:10 (NASB)
who delivered us from so great a peril of death (past), and will deliver us(again), He on whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us

2. What has my pain caused me to forget about God

Matthew 1:1 (NIV)
A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham:

It’s sometimes easy to forget that, in Christ, all things work together for THE good!

Romans 8:28 (NKJV)
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose

3. Am I becoming who I want to be, where I am?

We can forget that the answer isn’t getting a new address, especially among reviling people, what we all need is to RECOVER the life that Jesus died to give us

Matthew 11:28-30 (MSG)
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly."
