Uncomplicating Our Relationships
“The degradation of relationship is the destruction of a people.”
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
John 10:10 (NIV)
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.
29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 1:21-23 & 29-32 (NIV)
“Relationships Form and Inform us, and relationships of the female kind are in a league of their own”
“We are the common denominator in every relationship we are in.”
LET’S RESTORE WHAT WAS LOST, AND UNCOMPLICATE OUR RELATIONSHIPS
1. GO BACK TO MOVE FORWARD
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (ESV )
⠀
“But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God…”
John 1:12 (ESV )
“To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”
Ephesians 4:22-24 (ESV)
2. REFUSE TO SELF-PRESERVE
“Self-preservation is willfully choosing the pain of isolation over the potential of messy godly connection.” Andi Andrew
Whoever isolates himself seeks his own desire;
he breaks out against all sound judgment.
2 A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing his opinion.
Proverbs 18:1 (ESV)
3. CHOOSE TO BIRTH THE DREAMS OF OTHERS
“The origin of the word midwife is mid, “together with,” plus wife, “woman.” To become a spiritual midwife means that we are together with women, not against them. We are for women; they are not our competition. We are there alongside other women to bring forth life, not death. Friends, it is not our role on this earth to tear down, cancel, destroy, or slander another woman or to set her life on fire.” - Andi Andrew, Becoming Spiritual Midwives
Our relationships are deeply important.
“The degradation of relationship is the destruction of a people.”
Psalm 1:1-3 NIV
Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
