22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)

4 Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NKJV)

Vs 4 - Love is tolerant, compassionate, not jealous and is humble.

  • Tolerant: Accepts others without complaining or getting angry.

  • Compassionate: Gentle, thoughtful and compassionate heart, feeling another’s sorrow as well as joy.

  • Not jealous: Satisfied and thankful for possession without coveting another person’s goods.

  • Humble: Admits mistakes quickly and emphatically wants to correct the mistake.

  • Forgiving heart and desires peace not hatred.

Vs 5 - Love is courteous, unselfish, composed, blameless and is truthful.

  • Courteous: Respectful and honors others without shaming another or humiliating another person.

  • Unselfish: Always thoughtful and concerned about others and is not greedy.

  • Composed: Transparent and has a soft heart for others.

  • Blameless: Strives to do the right thing and avoids behavior.

Vs 6 - Love is Truthful

  • Truthful: Doesn’t live in a lie

Vs 7 - Love Protects and is Persistent

  • Protects: Safeguards others.

  • Persistent: Does not easily give up.

18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.

Vs 27 - Love the unlovable.

Joy

  • Dictionary defines as the emotion evoked by well-being, success or good fortune of by the prospect of possessing what one desires.

  • Biblical joy is not based our possessions but is an inward peace and happiness regardless of outside circumstances. Nehemiah 8:10

  • It is a choice, 2 Corinthians 7:4 (NKJV) Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation.

  • It is repentance, it’s everlasting as compared to temporality of happiness. James 1: 2 (NKJV) 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,

Peace

  • It is a gift and blessing from God

  • It describes God character – 1 Thessalonians 5:23

  • It is trust – Proverbs 3:5

  • It is purity – James 4:8

  • It is power and grace – Ephesians 3:18

  • It is knowing – Romans 8:28

  • Not being anxious Philippians 4:6

  • Thankful – Colossians 3:15

  • Praising God – Ephesians 1:3

Long Suffering / Patience

  • Long in patience suffering, enduring abuse and insult and mistreatment.

  • Longanimity. Patience is the quality of being patient.

  • Patience tolerates delays, problems or suffering without becoming annoyed or anxious.

  • Suffering long is long tempered, doesn’t retaliate, doesn’t punish, has a very long fuse. 1 Thessalonians 1:3 – Long suffers do not surrender to the circumstance.

  • God is the source of long suffering – Exodus 34:6; Numbers 14:18; Psalms 86:16; Romans 2:4; 2 Peter 3:15; 2 Peter1:4

Gentleness (Kindness) and Goodness

  • Gentleness or kindness means you are generous and considerate to others. Offering a helping hand.

  • Goodness is the action of gentleness. Gentleness does not consider themselves better than another. It is about helping another person even when wronged.

  • Goodness is serving a meal at a homeless shelter, taking a meal to a fellow believer who is sick and volunteering. If you struggle at goodness, then make yourself to these things. It could be a surprise call/visit, hug, empathy, write a note of encouragement, help clean one’s home, deliver a meal.

Faith

  • Faith is a substance. Faith is something you can hold on to. Hebrews 11:1. Conviction of truth of anything. We accept Jesus because our hearts are convicted of the truth of who He is. Habakkuk 2:4.

  • Faith is confidence, powerful, love, knowing, trusting, loyalty, assurance, and is now and future.

  • Faith is affective, emotional, affects others, perceptive, reasoning, applied, real, every day, useful, is action. James 2:26.

  • Faith is grace, certain, necessary, fully trusting, eternal life.

Meekness

  • Meekness is not weakness, it is strength under control. Philippians 2:4.

  • Meekness is humility and submissiveness. Not weakness but strength to humble oneself and submit, Luke 22:41. Jesus was a servant and humbled Himself to the cross. 1 Peter 5:5-6. Do not lift yourself above others but show the will of God.

Self Control / Temperance

  • Moderation in action, thought, or feeling restraint.

  • Habitual moderation in the indulgence of appetites or passions. Moderation in or abstinence from the use of anything that would override yourself control, such as alcohol, drugs, pornography, etc.

  • Temperance is moderation in thought, word, and action/behavior. Ephesians 5:18. Holy Spirit should be in control. That which you do not have self-control over has become another god.

    • Virtue of temperance

      ·         Examine areas of our live where there’s no self-control

      ·         Write it down and make goals

      ·         Find accountability partner

      ·         Confess your faults to one another

      ·         Deny the flesh daily

    • 1 Corinthians 9:27, Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 10:31

Prayer :

1.     Pray to Holy Spirit who knows all truth to reveal to you a fruit which you struggle to displays

2.    Now ask Holy Spirit to bring opportunities to practice the wonderful display of this fruit in you.

3.    Ask Holy Spirit to you mature in all these fruit and that you would no long delay or hinder the gifts He wants to display in you. And as those gifts become evident, that you would use them to the glory of God, edifying the body of Christ.

4.    We are to desire the gifts, but first we are to master the skill to use, which are the fruit.
