The Baptism of the Holy Spirit


”I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”
Matthew 3:11 NKJV

“And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”
Acts 1:4-5 NKJV

“And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?”

The Big Idea: The Power of the Holy Spirit is the foundation for the advancement of the Kingdom of God on Earth.

“Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

2. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a clothing of the believer with power from on high.

• This May include certain signs (Acts 10:44)
• Speaking in tongues
• Prophesying
• Praising and worsting God
• Passion to preach to the lost.

• It is the coming of the Witness of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit brings the reality of Jesus. He manifests Christ to us in convincing ways

““But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me. And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.”
John 15:26-27 NKJV

1. Our Witness before the Father

• The Holy Spirit Testifies to us who we are before God. He convinces us that we are God ‘s beloved Children. ( This is my beloved son).

“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,”

• The Holy Spirit teaches how to speak to the Father

“Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”
(Romans 8:26-27 NKJV)

• The Holy Spirit gives us a special language to speak to the Father

“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”
(I Corinthians 14:2 NKJV)

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit empowers prayer lives so that we may grow in our fellowship God. Intimacy with God is cultivated through a spirit-filled lifestyle.

2. Our Witness on behalf of the Father

God wants us to represent him in the world effectively. He has called us to be ambassadors of the kingdom of Heaven.

The Holy Spirit empowers to bear witness to the reality of the Kingdom God.

“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 NKJV

“And with great power, the apostles gave witness to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And great grace was upon them all.”
Acts 4:33 NKJV

The Kingdom of God operates by Power. Without the power of the Holy Spirit

“For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.”
(I Corinthians 4:20 NKJV)

If the Baptism of the Holy Spirit can be experienced Now, then the evidence of the Kingdom of God can also be experienced Now.
God gives the same measure of the Holy Spirit to all.

If the Baptism of the Holy Spirit is the same, then the manifestation of Power will be the same.

A. The Preaching of the Gospel to the Lost
B. The Casting our of Demons
C. The Healing of the Sick
D. The manifestation Of various signs, Wonders and Miracles.
